2020 is over
Jan. 1st, 2021 11:52 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
my year in review is going to be, at best, very scattered. i don't keep track of things even nearly as well as other people seem to. maybe that's something i'll work on this year. make some spreadsheets. channel some powerful Risa energy. anyway i'm just going to break everything down as best i can. i played and beat a LOT of games this year, a lot of which are very long rpgs that i sunk far too many hours into. The fact my ENTIRE xenoblade phase is solely contained in 2020 off of a whim purchase of the first game bc i vaguely remembered my brother playing it on the wii. anyway. here we go:
Games I beat:
1. FE3H Golden Deer Route -- Started blue lions route but got bored
2. Breath of the Wild -- restarted a playthrough and then beat the whole game, bought dlc and played that for a while until i got distracted (I think by tales of berseria on the cpu)
3. Age of Calamity -- impa <3
4. Fire Emblem Warriors -- impulse bought at midnight while drunk back in february (when i was still going into work lmfao)
5. what the golf -- fun game, quick play
6. Link's Awakening -- got and played through a lot of this in 2019 as a christmas present, went in finished in 2020 off the high of accidentally beating breath of the wild
7. xenoblade chronicles -- melia time :]
8. xenoblade chronicles 2 -- morag time :]
9. the almost gone -- very quick game. fun puzzles
10. overcooked 2 -- technically beat story mode w friends (frog, arlene, mal, risa, maybe erin played a bit too)
11. ori and the blind forest -- had played most of this on my laptop a few years back before it reached a point where my boy was cooked trying to play. gave up restarted and beat it on switch
12. pikmin 3 -- i beat this today but i played it mostly in 2020 so i'll count it
13. tales of berseria -- on pc. eleanor::)))))))))
14. fire emblem awakening -- turns out i didn't finish my first playthrough until 2020 technically !! but i also played through it a second time in 2020 so it still counts.
Games i did not beat but occupied a lot of my time:
1. terraria
2. animal crossing new horizons
3. moonlighter -- i do not think i'll ever beat this game LMFAO
4. story of seasons: friends of mineral town -- was very into it but i keep trying and can't get back into it :\
5. Tales of Vesperia
6. hatsune miku mega mix -- i rly like the disappearance of hatsune miku.
7. octopath -- rly need to get back into this LMFAO
8. tokyo mirage sessions -- i go through long pockets of playing this and then forget about it. need to finally beat it lmao
9. hollow knight -- restarted a playthrough before getting distrated
10. children of morta -- REALLY liked this game. really want to beat it i got distracted by xenoblade i think
11. a hat in time -- stopped bc there was a sneak level and i hate those
12. the messenger -- got distracted
13. rune factory 4 -- rly want to get back into this...rly prefer the RF series to the SoS series now
14. unrailed
15. whatever pc games idr playing but did
Okay gaming out of the way. books i did not do as well as i'd hoped. at the beginning of quarantine me and my sister were like "lets read all of the divine comedy" and then we didn't <3 but i did finish a p big reading goal (ulysses!!!) anyway here is short breakdown:
1. The best american essays 2019 - would read at work
2. wind says (bai hua) - bought at a really cool poetry bookshop in cambridge
3. the inferno (dante) - did finish. didn't laugh
4. the prom (saundra mitchell) - impulse purchase bc it was cheap at a bookstore. Bad book don't read
5. the oedipus cycle (sophocles) - had only read antigone prior
6. bulfinch's mythology (Thomas bulfinch) - me reading this: omg a fire emblem character name
7. collected poems (james joyce) - .
8. ulysses (james joyce) - started this in 2018, but restarted late 2019 and struggled through it until late october. but it's done! may reread in 2021)
9. Faithful and virtuous night (louise gluck) - : ) a friend recommended her poetry and my sister owned this book
books done ! i made a soundcloud this year (cringe) and uploaded 7 songs) my favorite is you win!! makes sense i'd prioritize the more recent stuff. i'd list them out but instead i will redirect you to my soundcloud (find it yourself if you care that much). i want to write more music in 2021 if i can, maybe even write a song good enough that someone would recommend listening to it to a friend ! that would be exciting but we'll see lol.
Some misc stuff i did this year:
-built a gaming pc
-almost got hired full time before that got pushed off for a bit
-bought some books and stuff
-bought a weirdly large amount of music instrument nonsensel. stylophone, artiphon inst 1, mechanical music box, possibly the ocarina was this year? and a bunch of sheet music.
-bleached my hair
-finished my first full set of cipher cards (thank u arlene)
As far as my fixations go most of the early year was controlled yet still by fire emblem (Broad), with little diversions for my two xenoblade phases (of both one and two). parts of the spring and summer were devoted to silent Old English obsession and ToB kept more of my mental energy than i'd care to admit, but ultimately i ended out the year very into revue starlight (have consumed all related media except the movie), and have spent a lot of time playing the mobile game....it's kinda nice to be into smth where i'm like "ultimately at the end of the day this is good. the plot is good, the characters are good, and the messages are fun and interesting" (compared to fe where even if everything is good you have to contend with a lot more of That Which Is Bad). I also think i can be into one anime. that's ok. i was like super into videogames before are you really that surprised?
and then 2021 goals ! i'm not usually good at this because i either make them too broad or too grand (read more too broad to be completed. read 100 books too grand). but here we go
gaming:
-hollow knight
-tms#fe
-transistor
-pokemon sword
-ni no kuni
-children of morta
beyond that probably just running through my list of digital games i own that i haven't played yet LOL. i would like to play more games on my pc instead of just minecraft and terraria but i'm keeping things broad besides those six bc i like to just play the games my mood strikes me 2 play lol. i'll probably shelf borderlands for a bit.. it was fun but i don't think it's a great intro into playing FPSs and the hitboxes have been frustrating.
books:
-i've been "reading" shakespeare's sonnets and emily dickinson's poetry since...2016......? earlier? so my plan is to finally get through those (slowly, throughout the year) or maybe quickly all at once depending on how i decide to do it at the time.
-troilus and criseyde......i miss u geoffrey
-infinite jest !
misc goals
-want to be able to translate the opening of beowulf past what i know
-have three writing projects i'd like to get through
-starira main story
-general lifekeeping room wellness blah blah blah
-write more music
-drumming (for prep for when things open enough for me to join a community ensemble)
depending on how the vaccination/post-vacc timeline goes, i'd like to be able to visit more places/meet more friends ! I've been sort of tied into a weird self-isolating loop (as i often am, if you know me) and i'd like to push against that a bit. i really do love people and really love talking to people, i just get too into my own head about not wanting to bother anybody w/ my interests (hence why my starira stuff has been kept mostly private even though it's been about 24/7 in my brain). + i haven't gotten to visit that many places outside of new england. lame ! want to change that ! also miss burlington vt i would like to visit there again </3
anyway! it's been a year huh? here's to another one. that's how the passage of time works. thanks again for sticking around enough to see still want to read my tweets sometimes.
